Portable Imaging Device

Ophthalmic Imaging Systems has announced that the FDA has granted 510(k) market clearance for the OIS EyeScan. The company says the OIS EyeScan is the only portable imaging device that is capable of imaging both the anterior and posterior segments of the eye.

The device offers seven interchangeable imaging modules that enable practices to transition from capturing one type of image to another without moving the patient or the device. The OIS EyeScan captures both live video and 5.3-megapixel digital images from each of the imaging modules.

The company offers custom cases for all of the OIS EyeScan components, thereby enabling the device to be used at multiple locations in a single day.

Surgical Instruments

Bausch & Lomb Storz has announced the release of two surgical instruments.

The Single-Use Endgripping Forceps are intended for vitreoretinal surgery and are available in 23- and 25-gauge options. Designed for safety, consistency and convenience, they feature an ultra-thin endgripping tip for enhanced visibility and grasp.

The Raviv Capsulorhexis Caliper is designed to aid in the construction of a specifically sized capsulorhexis. Used through the main cataract wound or paracentesis, the adjustable marking tips allow the surgeon to mark the capsule boundaries in two axes. The blunt adjustable tips allow for atraumatic indentation of the capsule, and the millimeter adjustment plate offers a caliper tip range of 0 to 8 mm.
