John was the director of FriendShip 2000, a project of the Hawaiian Eye Foundation, which established a new eye clinic in the Kingdom of Tonga. He recently sailed 2400 miles solo in a 24-foot boat from San Diego to Honolulu to raise funds for the Foundation. Prior to founding J. Pinto & Associates, John served as Public Affairs Director of The Salk Institute for Biological Studies, and was a lecturer in science ethics and journalism at the University of California, San Diego.
