Randolph L. Johnston, MD
Dr. Johnston currently serves as past president and is a member of the Academy's Board of Trustees. Dr. Johnston has served the Academy in numerous capacities including president in 2010. He has also served on the board as president-elect, and senior secretary for advocacy. He has been a councillor and a member of the Committee on State Governmental Affairs. He served as chair of the Academy's OPHTHPAC Committee as well as coordinating Eye M.D. for the Academy's Laser Surgery Initiative. He also has served 12 years on the Regional Roundup Organizing Committee. He has received the Academy's Senior Achievement Award.
A third-generation ophthalmologist, Dr. Johnston received his medical doctorate from the University of Utah College of Medicine in 1979 and subsequently completed his internship and residency at the same school in 1980 and 1983, respectively. He then went on to receive his fellowship in diseases and surgery of the retina and vitreous at University of Pennsylvania's Scheie Eye Institute in 1984.
Dr. Johnston is in private practice in Cheyenne, Wyo., as a vitreoretinal specialist and is a consultant to the Cheyenne VA. He currently has clinical faculty appointments with the University of Wyoming Family Practice Program and the University of Utah department of ophthalmology. He served as chief of staff at United Medical Center in Cheyenne. His hobbies include radio-controlled airplanes and helicopters and playing bass guitar in a rock band. He has three children (Michell Howard, Meghan Aelabouni, and Matt Johnston) and three grandchildren (Nyah, Quinn and Ethan). He lives with his wife Patty and springer spaniel Millie.
