In addition to serving on the Academy's Board of Trustees as an international trustee, Dr. El Danasoury currently serves as president of the International Society of Refractive Surgery (ISRS), chairman of the Scientific Program Committee of the Middle East Africa Council of Ophthalmology (MEACO) and as the medical director and chief of the refractive surgery units, Magrabi Eye and Ear Hospitals in the Middle East.

Dr. El Danasoury is a graduate of College de la Salle French School in Cairo, Egypt. He completed his studies at the school of medicine, Ain Shams University, Cairo, and later obtained a masters degree in ophthalmology from the same university. In 1994, he passed the necessary examinations at the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh, and is a certified fellow. Dr El Danasoury had a fellowship in cornea and refractive surgery from Emory University School under George O. Waring III.

Upon completion of his fellowships, Dr. El Danasoury served as cornea and refractive surgery consultant and subsequently as medical director at Magrabi Eye and Ear Center in UAE, where his performance of duty was impeccable.He was later relocated to his present duties at the Magrabi Hospital in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

His additional duties include supervising the Magrabi Health Care quality programs and the medical educational activities, including advanced lamellar corneal surgery instructional courses and hands-on training for regional cornea and refractive surgeons.

Dr. El Danasoury is among the very first refractive surgeons to perform LASIK operations in the world and was the first to perform Phakic IOLs in the Middle East.

He holds membership in the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, the Saudi Ophthalmological Society and the Egyptian Ophthalmological Society, to name a few.He also has many peer-reviewed publications, book chapters, awards and recognitions, invited lectures and more than 300 presentations at international meetings to his credit. 

Dr. El Danasoury has received many awards, including ISRS' Kritzinger Memorial Award (2009), the Academy's Achievement Award (2007) and the Pan Arab African Council of Ophthalmology Award (2005). He was also the recipient of many regional ophthalmological societies' awards, including the Sudanese Society of Ophthalmology Award (2001), Jordanian Society of Ophthalmology Award (1999), Lebanese Society of Ophthalmology Award (1998) and the Kuwait Society of Ophthalmology Award (1997).
