Charles M. Zacks, MD
Dr. Zacks was elected as trustee-at-large in 2012. He served as a member of the Academy's Ethics Committee from 1994 to 2010, including a term as Ethics Committee chairman. Dr. Zacks has also served on the Council as both alternate councilor and then councilor from Maine, and is a past president of the Maine Society of Eye Physicians and Surgeons. He is a past president and current board member of the New England Ophthalmologic Society (NEOS) and has served as chair of the NEOS Program Committee. Dr. Zacks has been an associate examiner for the American Board of Ophthalmology since 1998.
Dr. Zacks received his medical degree from Yale University, followed by an internship at the Newton Wellesley Hospital and a residency at California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco. Following residency, he was a fellow in cornea and external disease at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami. After moving to Maine in 1990, he became a partner at Maine Eye Center in Portland, and has served as vice president and president for the practice. He specializes in cornea and external disease, with special interest in corneal transplantation surgery. As a clinical instructor at the Tufts University School of Medicine, Dr. Zacks teaches medical students and residents from the Maine Medical Center and at the New England Eye Center in Boston.
