David A. Durfee, MD
Dr. Durfee currently serves on the Board of Trustees as senior secretary for ophthalmic practice. He was elected to this position in 2007. His Academy service started in the early 1980s as a councilor from the state of Oregon from 1980 to 1989. He then served as the Academy's associate secretary for ophthalmic practice from 1989 to 1990. He was elected as a trustee at large and served in this position from 1990 to 1992. He was a member of the Ad Hoc Committee on Organizational Design that restructured the Academy in 1992. As part of that restructuring, he was elected as the first senior secretary for ophthalmic practice in 1992. He served in this position from 1992 to 1996. He resigned his position as senior secretary in 1996 to pursue an opportunity in administrative medicine. He has served on many Academy committees, including the Practice Management Committee, Long Range Planning Committee, Awards Committee, Nominating Committee, Executive Committee, Audit Committee and the Academy's Strategic Assessment Planning Committee. He returned as the secretary for practice management from 2002 to 2006. Since 2002 he has also served as a board member for the American Academy of Ophthalmic Executives.
Dr. Durfee received his medical degree in 1968 and completed a residency in 1975, both at the University of Oregon Medical School.
Currently on extended sabbatical from clinical medicine, Dr. Durfee is clinical assistant professor, Oregon Health Sciences University in Portland. He has been active in Oregon state medical associations for many years and is past president of the Oregon Academy of Ophthalmology.
