Edmond_Jane 2013Jane C. Edmond, MD

After completing her one-year term as an appointed trustee-at-large in 2013, Dr. Edmond was elected for a full, four-year term as an at large trustee beginning in 2014. Dr. Edmond has a long history of involvement with the American Academy of Ophthalmology, for which she has served on the following committees: Recertification Committee, Lifetime Education for the Ophthalmologist (LEO) committee (chair), Maintenance of Certification Education Committee (chair), Basic and Clinical Science Course Committee Volume 6, Communications Advisory Board and EyeNet editorial board. In addition to her Academy work, Dr. Edmond has been very involved with the American Association of Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus (AAPOS), for which she has served on the Board of Directors for eight years and on numerous committees, most recently as Councilor to the Academy. She has received the Academy Achievement and Secretariat Awards and the AAPOS Honor Award.

Dr. Edmond is an associate professor of the department of ophthalmology and pediatrics, Baylor College of Medicine, Houston. She practices pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus and pediatric neuro-ophthalmology at Texas Children's Hospital. She also attends a clinic and operates at the Houston Veterans Affairs Hospital. She graduated from of the University of Texas, Austin, with honors, and Baylor College of Medicine. She was elected to Phi Beta Kappa and Alpha Omega Alpha. After a residency in ophthalmology at the Cullen Eye Institute, Baylor College of Medicine, she completed a pediatric ophthalmology fellowship at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics. She became a faculty member of Baylor College of Medicine and Texas Children's Hospital from 1991 to 1997. Dr. Edmond then joined the faculty at Scheie Eye institute, Wills Eye Hospital and Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. She returned to Houston in 2003 to rejoin the faculty of Baylor College of Medicine and Texas Children's Hospital. In 2005 she completed a fellowship in neuro-ophthalmology at Baylor College of Medicine.

Dr. Edmond is an oral board examiner for the American Board of Ophthalmology. She is on the editorial board of the Journal of the American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus. She served as the principal ophthalmology consultant to the Center for Disease Control task force on the management of craniostenosis.

Dr. Edmond has a keen interest in the surgical management of complex strabismus in adults and children, and in the ophthalmic sequelae of pediatric brain tumors and syndromic craniofacial disorders. She has lectured nationally and internationally and is known for her expertise in these areas. She has published many books chapters and peer-reviewed papers. She has trained hundreds of residents and fellows.
