J. Antonio Roca, MD
Dr. Roca ("Tono") currently serves the Academy's Board of Trustees as an international advisor. He is also an associate professor at the Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia and Universidad Nacional Federico Villarreal, executive vice president of the Pan American Association of Ophthalmology and past-president of the Pan American Society of Retina and Vitreous.
Dr. Roca is a retina specialist and partner at the Instituto de Ojos Primavera and Clinica Ricardo Palma in Lima, Peru. He did his residency at the Instituto Nacional de Oftalmologia (INO) in Lima, then a one-year fellowship in retina at the Universidad de Chile under Professor Juan Verdaguer and a research fellowship in retina at the Jules Stein Eye Institute in UCLA.
Dr. Roca returned to Lima in 1995 and worked in the INO's retina division until 2005. Dr. Roca's wife, Chari, is a pre-school teacher and they have four daughters. When not working, he enjoys playing golf.
