Jonathan B. Rubenstein, MDJonathan B. Rubenstein, MD

Dr. Rubenstein is the senior secretary in charge of the Academy's annual meeting and sits on the committee of secretaries. He is the past chairman of the Academy's Skills Transfer Advisory Committee. Dr. Rubenstein is the vice chairman and Deutsch family professor of ophthalmology at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, as well as chairman of the section of ophthalmology at the Skokie Hospital, in Skokie, Ill. He is also the director of refractive surgery at Rush.

Dr. Rubenstein received his undergraduate degree in biology with honors from the University of Rochester and received his medical degree with honors from Rush Medical College, where he was elected AOA. He completed an ophthalmology residency at Rush-Presbyterian St. Luke's Medical Center, where he served as chief resident, and completed a fellowship in cornea/external disease/refractive surgery in the department of ophthalmology at the University of Minnesota, where he was awarded the Outstanding Teacher Award.

Dr. Rubenstein is a past president of the Chicago Ophthalmological Society and currently serves as an examiner for the American Board of Ophthalmology. He is a member of the Refractive Surgery Clinical Committee, the Skills Transfer Committee and the Film Festival Committee for the American Society for Cataract and Refractive Surgery and is a member of the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology and the Academy's Refractive Surgery Interest Group.

Dr. Rubenstein is a recognized instructor of multiple refractive surgery, cataract and corneal surgical techniques. He is an active teacher in courses at Academy and ASCRS meetings and has received the Academy's Honor Award and Senior Achievement Award. He is a frequently invited lecturer around the world and is the author of numerous research articles and book chapters. He is on the board of the Illinois Society for the Prevention of Blindness and was selected as one of Chicago's top doctors by Chicago Magazine and one of America's top doctors by Castle Connolly.
