Linda M. Tsai, MD
Dr. Tsai was elected as an at-large member of the board of trustees in 2012. She currently serves as the chair of the Academy's Item Review Group and chaired the comprehensive ophthalmology section of the Self Assessment Committee from 2003 to 2008. She is a graduate of the Leadership Development Program and has been active at the state level, serving as president of the Missouri Ophthalmological Society of Eye Physicians and Surgeons in 2010. She is a recipient of the Academy Achievement Award.
Dr. Tsai attended Northwestern University's honors program in medical education. She received her bachelor's degree in 1990 and her medical degree in 1995. During medical school, she spent a year at the National Eye Institute as a Howard Hughes research scholar. She finished a medical internship at the McGaw Medical Center of Northwestern University in Chicago and then moved to St. Louis to complete a residency in ophthalmology at Washington University.
In 2002, after three years in private practice, Dr. Tsai joined the faculty at Washington University as a comprehensive ophthalmologist. She is currently an associate professor of ophthalmology, and, in addition to maintaining a busy clinical practice, teaches cataract surgery to residents. Dr. Tsai has been involved in several cataract teaching courses in the United States and abroad, and is an instructor for the Annual Meeting Skills Transfer course in phacoemulsification and advanced techniques. She has authored ophthalmology chapters in the McGraw-Hill textbook Current Diagnosis and Treatment: Surgery and the Washington University Manual of Outpatient Internal Medicine and Therapeutics. Her clinical interests are in advanced cataract surgery and refractive surgery.
Dr. Tsai is an associate examiner for the American Board of Ophthalmology and serves as secretary for the Chinese American Ophthalmological Society. She is married to Gabriel de la Paz and has three children. She enjoys volleyball, golf, running, skiing and tennis with varying levels of proficiency.
