About the Academy

Each year, all active voting fellows and members of the American Academy of Ophthalmology can participate in the election for officers and trustee-at-large positions on the Board of Trustees and for proposed amendments to the Academy’s Articles of Incorporation, Bylaws, Code of Ethics and Procedural Rules.

The voting period lasts for 30 days as constituted in the Academy’s bylaws and votes are confidential.

Voting fellows and members have the choice to cast their votes by mail or online formats. In order to submit a ballot, members must be in good standing at the time of ballot distribution or have completed the membership enrollment process before the balloting period opens.

Most important, your participation in this process is crucial! Members are the lifeblood of our professional organization and taking part in the Academy’s governance ensures our strength and effectiveness in serving our membership.
