    Fun with Femtosecond Lasers

    AAO 2015
    Cataract/Anterior Segment

In this video, the authors evaluate capsulorhexis (CCC), nuclear softening, and the margin of safety using the femtosecond laser. Donor eyes are studied using the Miyake-Apple technique and CCC was performed. Various patterns of nuclear treatment are evaluated from the posterior view and the nucleus is studied with light microscopy. Precise creation of the CCC is achieved and the nucleus fragmented using radial and matrix/grid patterns. There is no nuclear movement. The eyes reveal precise placement of the matrix pattern within the nucleus and no disruption of the capsule. According to the authors, the Miyake-Apple view demonstrates precise placement of the laser-created CCC as well as the various nuclear softening patterns.
