Placing Toric IOL in Compromised Capsular Bag

    AAO 2015
    Cataract/Anterior Segment

This video presents a challenging case in which the surgeon must decide whether to place a toric IOL in a compromised capsular bag in a 72-year-old patient with 2.5 D of astigmatism. The patient undergoes femtosecond laser cataract surgery, and during the nuclear removal, an anterior capsular tear occurs. Following careful cortical removal, the capsular bag is inflated with viscoelastic to help prevent the tear from progressing.
