When Things Start Blowing, Try Beans

    AAO 2015
    Cataract/Anterior Segment

Dr. Beiko demonstrates an innovative solution to avoid iris prolapse during cataract surgery: a bean-shaped Morcher ring. By inserting the polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) ring in the anterior chamber so that it sits between the iris and the phaco tip, he manages to protect the iris during phacoemulsification. Dr. Beiko suggests that with some minor modifications, it could help to prevent iris prolapse.
