Dr. Guy Ben Simon discusses a paper he presented at Oculoplastics Today 2010, showing that the size of the bony ostium created during external dacryocystorhinostomy substantially decreases three months after successful surgery. Based on his research, Dr. Ben Simon suggests that the critical size bone defect is 100 to 200 mm². However, he explains this association is imperfect.
