Cataract/Anterior Segment
Dr. Siddhartha Ghosh performs cataract surgery on a patient who sustained damage to the posterior capsule during a bevacizumab injection for diabetic macular edema. Phacoemulsification is performed slowly and under low settings. After careful removal of the cortex, he discovered that the lens capsule was undamaged. However, while introducing the trailing haptic of the IOL, the lens began to sink into the vitreous cavity. Still in possession of the trailing haptic, he re-externalized it, but as he brought it back into the anterior chamber, the IOL flipped. Manipulating the haptic further, he successfully repositioned the IOL in the sulcus.
