Cataract/Anterior Segment
Dr. Robert Osher says this new technique for re-centering a subluxated IOL is “brilliant”. In this technique the lens haptic is sutured to the remnants of the anterior capsule, which may avoid complications associated with iris and scleral fixation. Using the original incisions from the initial cataract procedure, they fill the anterior chamber with viscoelastic and re-center the IOL and bring it onto the iris plane. One micro circular capsulorrhexis (CC) with 1 mm diameter is made in the remnants of the anterior capsule close to the 10 o’clock haptic. A 10-0 Prolene or Ethilon curved needle is passed through the first micro CC, passing under the haptic and anterior capsular remnants and through the second micro CC or through the original CC. The needle exits through the opposing peripheral cornea. A Siepser sliding knot is then performed.
