Dr. Alfonso Vasquez Perez shows how superficial keratectomy prior to cataract surgery can help improve visualization in patients with corneal scar. He demonstrates his alternative technique in a patient with a herpetic corneal scar, anterior stroma scarring, iris synechiae and dense cataract. After keratectomy, Dr. Perez continues with synechiolysis and then inserts iris hooks prior to capsulorhexis and phacoemulsification using the “divide-and-conquer” technique.
