This case demonstrates how to manage a thermal burn during phacoemulsification. The burn occurred when foot position 3 was inadvertently engaged. Dr. Arup Chakrabarti first closes the incision and makes a new clear corneal incision superiorly. Phaco is performed with copious amounts of a dispersive OVD, and a 3-piece IOL was implanted in the capsular bag. Both incisions were closed with sutures. At 6 months postop, the patient achieved good uncorrected distance and near vision with 2D of cylinder.
