Question:
Is it normal to feel some dizziness the day after a laser peripheral iridotomy?
Answer:
A laser peripheral iridotomy creates a small hole in the colored part of the eye (the iris) in an effort to improve fluid drainage of the normal fluid in individuals with angle closure glaucoma (a type of glaucoma in which the iris blocks the normal flow of fluid out of the eye). The laser is performed using eye drops to numb the surface of the eye and to constrict (make small) the pupil. A small contact lens is placed on the eye in order to focus the laser light. After the laser, the eye can be a bit blurry and light sensitive, though these symptoms generally go away within a day or two. It would not be typical to experience dizziness. If your symptoms persist you should ask your ophthalmologist or family physician.
