Should Calcium Be Removed Before Cataract Surgery?
FEB 09, 2015
Question:
What causes calcium in the eye and should it be removed before cataract surgery?
Answer:
Calcium deposits in the eye can occur in many different parts of the eyes for a variety of reasons. In a condition known as "band keratopathy," calcium is deposited in the cornea, and it can and should be removed by an ophthalmologist in certain situations. But in general, calcium deposits should not be removed from an eye before or after cataract surgery.
