Question:
My daughter is 7 years old and has been tested as having poor eyesight. The doctor here in China has determined to induce mydiasis (dilation of eye) by using eye drops in order to determine the cause of the eyesight problems. Is this a standard diagnostic procedure used internationally, and is it safe? The doctor says she will need to undergo a month's worth of this.
Answer:
Mydriatic drops are often used to assist in diagnostic testing and examinations. They are typically used several times, but not for a month. These drops can be used long term for treatment of some eye conditions.
