Visual Field Test for a Teenager?
JUN 03, 2014
Question:
My teenage daughter had trouble with the visual field test so the optometrist repeated the test with different results each time. The doctor didn't seem very concerned, saying it was a "hard test for some kids." Do you think a dilated eye exam should be scheduled?
Answer:
The first question I have is why your optometrist felt a healthy teenager should have a visual field test. It is unusual to obtain a visual field in a child without a specific diagnosis in mind. I suggest a complete ocular examination including a dilated examination with an ophthalmologist.
