Will Medicare or my insurance pay for toric lens?

Answer:
Generally the additional costs related to an astigmatic correcting IOL (toric IOL) are not covered by insurance. The costs are related to the supply of the IOL as well as the additional tests, work-up, measurements, calculations and preoperative counseling that go into choosing the correct toric IOL, as well as additional postoperative care required in monitoring the results of the use of the toric IOL. The decision on whether or not to pay extra for a toric or upgraded lens implant to correct astigmatism depends on a number of factors such as the amount of astigmatism present, and how important it is for you to have good vision without glasses. This is a discussion that you should have with your surgeon or ophthalmologist.
