Would it be possible to have LASIK after multiple retinal surgeries?

Question:
I have had macular pucker surgery, cataract surgery, and surgery for retinal detachment twice. It has been some years now and my vision is still very poor in that eye although the tests that I take show much improvement. My doctor said that it could be that the eye was damaged too long for it to heal any significant degree at this point. I wear glasses for the other eye as well now. I'm 67 and I would like to consider LASIK. Would this be a good idea to consider and would it help the bad eye or hurt it?
Answer:
LASIK will not make the problem worse, but it will definitely NOT make it better than your glasses. The treatment will not help your near vision at all so you will still need glasses. It is not uncommon after retinal surgery to have a permanent reduction in your central vision, particularly if the macula was involved. It probably is best to stick with glasses for best correction.
