Could cytomegalovirus retinitis (or CMV, a herpes-like viral eye infection) be re-activated in an HIV positive person who has had bad CMV and has suffered stress-related conjunctivitis several times?
CMV can be reactivated in an HIV+ person, mostly when their immune competence deteriorates. This would not be related to episodes of conjunctivitis, but rather it would be the result of breakdown of their overall ability to mount an effective response to the CMV virus.
