Is there any risk in waiting until my vision is effected to have YAG laser treatment?

Question:
I had cataract surgery in both eyes in January. At my six-month eye check-up, I was told that scar tissue was developing so I would need YAG laser treatment in both eyes. My vision is fine. I understand Medicare will not pay for YAG laser unless there is a vision problem. Is there any risk in waiting until my vision is effected to have YAG laser treatment?
Answer:
"YAG laser" surgery is typically used to create a small opening in the posterior capsule, a membrane that was on the cataract and deliberately left in place to help support the implant. In general, surgery is only indicated if and when vision is compromised, so there should be no risk in waiting, as a majority never require such surgery. If you have a very unique situation, the need and value of surgery should be thoroughly explained by your ophthalmologist.
