Question:
If redness persists two weeks after cataract surgery, can my father use cold water on his eye?
Answer:
In general, regular water (tap or bottled) should not be used on the eye. Over-the-counter artificial tears (lubrication drops) are the healthiest option to use in this setting. A cold pack may also be used over closed eyelids. However, if the redness is worsening, particularly if associated with pain or a change in vision, he should see his ophthalmologist.
