Why has my pink eye not gone away completely?
FEB 08, 2024
Question:
I have conjunctivitis (an eye infection, also called pink eye) and my doctor prescribed polymyxin B sulfate and trimethoprim ophthalmic solution, which I take every 4 hours. After 6 days, it doesn’t seem much better. The discharge has reduced but not stopped completely. The eyes still look very red and irritated. I do not wear contact lenses. Could this be something serious?
Answer:
Some types of conjunctivitis can take longer to resolve. It doesn't sound like it is something more serious such as a corneal disease or other type of inflammation in the eye. However if your vision is decreased or if your symptoms continue much longer, a follow-up exam with an ophthalmologist is needed.
