Alcon and PowerVision to collaborate on accommodating IOL

PowerVision, Inc. has entered an alliance with Alcon to bring their fluid-based accommodating IOL to market.

The fluid inside the IOL moves in response to the natural accommodating muscles in the eye, changing shape and becoming thicker when the patient needs to see up close or thinner to see far away.

Pilot studies of the technology have shown promise, presenting a possible new option for those considering corrective IOLs who are not good candidates for monofocal or multifocal lenses.

The collaboration will fund continued research and clinical trials, as well as giving Alcon the option to acquire PowerVision.
