The California-based company reported a strong demand for implantable collamer lenses (ICL), with China leading the uptake of ICLs in the Asia-Pacific region and Germany leading the European market.
Worldwide ICL sales increased 26% compared with the second quarter of 2015, whereas IOL sales decreased by 3%. STAAR also plans to discontinue the sales of silicone IOLs in North America, leaving only their proprietary collamer IOLs in the region.
STAAR CEO Caren Mason said that the company is also finalizing the first clinical trial of a presbyopic ICL.
