    Histologic changes in diabetes mellitus. Photomicrograph (PAS stain) showing iris neovascularization (black arrowhead), lacy vacuolation of the iris pigment epithelium (red arrowheads), and thickening of the basement membrane of the pigmented ciliary epithelium (red arrow). These histologic findings are typically found in the eyes of patients with diabetes mellitus.
