Training ophthalmologists in developing countries to provide eye care services has been identified by the global partnership, Vision 2020: The Right to Sight, as one of the most important actions needed to reduce avoidable blindness.

The Education Distribution Program contributes to the elimination of avoidable blindness by supporting the education of ophthalmic professionals in the most vulnerable countries.

Each year the Academy provides hundreds of boxes of educational materials to ophthalmology residency programs in low-income nations.
