    High-Powered Handheld Laser-Induced Maculopathy

    ASRS 2013 Annual Meeting
    Comprehensive Ophthalmology, Retina/Vitreous

Dr. J. Fernando Arevalo shares a case series he presented at the ASRS 2013 Annual Meeting that illustrates the danger of high-power blue laser pointers. With just momentary exposure, the laser pointers have caused various forms of maculopathy, including full thickness macular holes, subhyaloidal/sub-internal limiting membrane hemorrhage, outer retinal disruption, and epiretinal membrane. Visual acuity improved in all patients in his series, either spontaneously or following intervention.
