NSAIDs and Cataract Surgery
By Lisa B. Arbisser, MD; Stephen J. Kim, MD
AAO 2015
Cataract/Anterior Segment
In this interview from AAO 2015, Dr. Stephen Kim discusses an Ophthalmic Technology Assessment he co-authored that found no evidence to support routine use of NSAIDs after cataract surgery to prevent vision loss from cystoid macular edema. This finding runs contrary to the empirical evidence many cataract surgeons have reported. He discusses this controversy as well as the possible synergistic effects between NSAIDs and corticosteroids.
