New version to offer International Ophthalmology or The Profession of Ophthalmology as separate companion volumes

SAN FRANCISCO, DATE — The American Academy of Ophthalmology’s Basic and Clinical Science Course (BCSC) CD-ROM now includes a choice of an additional companion CD-ROM.  Each CD-ROM set includes the BCSC sections 1 to 13 and the Master Index, plus the choice of one new companion CD-ROM: International Ophthalmology, or The Profession of Ophthalmology.

As the perfect complement for the BCSC print editions, the new BCSC CD-ROM sets offer:

  • More than 5,000 pages and 3,000 full-color images
  • Convenient, searchable format that allows for easy reference
  • Enhanced ability to highlight text, write color-coded notes and bookmark important sections
  • Reference links to PubMed.gov
  • Interactive self-assessment program
  • Easy-to-use credit reporting process
  • 30 to 40 category 1 CME credits per section (except The Profession of Ophthalmology, which is not eligible for CME)

“The BCSC has been the respected source of concise ophthalmic knowledge for generations of ophthalmologists,” said Academy Secretary for Clinical Education Thomas J. Liesegang, MD. “Practicing ophthalmologists and residents alike use the BCSC as a training study tool and reference guide for patient care.”

The Profession of Ophthalmology volume, new for 2005, provides information about advocacy, ethics and the practice of ophthalmology, and is geared primarily toward residents. International Ophthalmology, previously Section 13 of the BCSC, is this year featured as a companion volume.

“The updated and improved CD-ROM version will allow clinicians access to course information from their computers while treating patients as part of a lifelong learning process,” Dr. Liesegang added. “These educational tools become even more important for Academy members as the Maintenance of Certification process approaches."

To order your copy, visit the Academy’s Web site at www.aao.org/store or call the Academy’s customer service department at 415.561.8540.  Discounts are available when the CD-ROM is purchased with BCSC print sections.
