SAN FRANCISCO, November 8, 2005 – H. The award is presented to the executive of a medical association who has contributed substantially to the goals and ideals of the medical profession.

“Under Dr. Hoskins’ leadership, the American Academy of Ophthalmology membership has grown to an impressive 94 percent of ophthalmologists within the U.S., plus an international membership exceeding 7,500 ophthalmologists,” said AMA President J. Edward Hill, M.D.

Dr. Hoskins began his tenure as executive vice president of the Academy in 1993.  He led a growing organization to successfully address the educational, practice management, and advocacy needs of its members. Dr. Hoskins has also cultivated a new generation of dynamic leaders through a Leadership Development Program that has been honored by the American Society of Association Executives.

As a founding chairman of Medem, Inc., Dr. Hoskins helped pool the resources of numerous medical societies, including the AMA, to enhance physician knowledge and online communications.

The American Medical Association (AMA) helps doctors help patients by uniting physicians nationwide to work on the most important professional and public health issues.
