NEW ORLEANS, LA – David J. Noonan, a 35-year veteran of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, was made an honorary Fellow of the physician’s group at the Academy’s Annual Meeting in New Orleans. Mr. Noonan, deputy vice president of the Academy, has been with the organization since 1972 and is one of its longest standing employees.
“David is a caring and effective leader,” said H. Dunbar Hoskins, MD, executive vice president of the Academy. “Since his start, he has brought to the Academy an eagerness to adapt, a hunger for learning and a boldness in challenging the prevailing wisdom—while treasuring the touchstones of honor, loyalty and integrity.”
According to a board of trustees resolution that was given to Mr. Noonan, “…the Academy has been blessed with a tireless servant who has vigilantly defended and staunchly advanced the reputation of the Academy and Ophthalmology and has made it his mission to look after those who look after the profession.”
“I am truly honored to be given this recognition and to have the privilege of working with leading ophthalmologists who time and again put patient needs ahead of all others,” said Mr. Noonan.
Mr. Noonan has devoted more than 40 years of his career to health care and medical education. He has been a hospital administrator and medical school instructor.
His dedication to education also extends to the association community through service on multiple association committees and boards. He is the immediate past president of the Center for Association Leadership, which is dedicated to research-based education programming.
Mr. Noonan is a resident of Sausalito, CA.
