SAN FRANCISCO – The American Academy of Ophthalmology is pleased that the Academy’s Web site, www.aao.org, has been ranked first among the most useful research sites by ophthalmologists, according to data gathered by PERQ/HCI in the 2007 Media-Chek® Eyecare study, a syndicated audit that measures readership and exposure potential of medical journals.

“We are proud that the Academy’s Web site is so useful to our members,” said H. Dunbar Hoskins, Jr., MD, executive vice president of the Academy. “We continue to look for new ways to make the Web site even more valuable, including enriching the content on the Ophthalmic News and Education (O.N.E.) Network.”

The Academy’s site was noted as the most useful site by 24 percent of those surveyed, more than double the responses for PubMed, its nearest competitor. The site was also selected as most useful by users with a high-volume practice or a surgical practice, as well as those aged 45 and younger.

About the American Academy of Ophthalmology
AAO is the world's largest association of eye physicians and surgeons—Eye M.D.s—with more than 27,000 members worldwide.  Eye health care is provided by the three “O’s” – opticians, optometrists and ophthalmologists. It is the ophthalmologist, or Eye M.D., who can treat it all: eye diseases and injuries, and perform eye surgery. To find an Eye M.D. in your area, visit the Academy's Web site at www.aao.org.
