Nancy Baker — Chair
Practice Administrator — Summit Eye Associates, P.C.
Nancy has 25 years of experience in medical administration. Before transitioning to ophthalmology in 2004, she worked for a variety of specialties including OB/Gyn, General Surgery and Internal Medicine, and specializes in revitalizing under-performing practices. She is currently the administrator for Summit Eye Associates, a medium size practice in Hermitage, TN. Previously, she was the administrator for Elander Eye Medical Group, Inc., a small group practice in Santa Monica, California from 2004 to 2014. She received her Bachelor of Arts from U.C. San Diego.
Practice Administrator — Fairview Eye Center
Mary has more than 20 years of experience in health care administration. She received her bachelor of science in gerontology from Bowling Green State University. Since 2009, she has managed the Fairview Eye Center near Cleveland, Ohio, which includes management of four MDs, two ODs, 35 staff members, two offices and two optical shops.
Sandra Curd MBA, COE, COA, OCS
Chief Operating Officer — Professional Eye Associates
Sandra began her career in ophthalmology in 1991. She has managed a small practice in North Carolina to one of the largest in the southeast. Currently, she is the COO of a mid-sized practice in Dalton Georgia. Sandra has also functioned in a number of capacities throughout her career in ophthalmology.
Ravi D. Goel, MD
Clinical Instructor, Wills Eye Institute — Comprehensive Ophthalmologist, Cherry Hill, NJ
Dr. Goel is a clinical instructor at Wills Eye Institute and a comprehensive ophthalmologist in Cherry Hill, N.J. He is a past member of the Academy's Young Ophthalmologist Committee and past president of the New Jersey Academy of Ophthalmology. A graduate of the Academy's Leadership Development Program, he is also member of the EyeNet editorial advisory board and the Academy's AMA delegation. He is a past chair of the AMA's Young Physician Section and recipient of top doc awards from South Jersey Magazine and SJ Magazine.
Edward C. Laski, MBA, BBA, COE
Practice Administrator — San Luis Obispo Eye Associates
Edward is the Practice Administrator for San Luis Obispo Eye Associates, located in San Luis Obispo, California. Prior to joining SLO Eye, Mr. Laski spent over 40 years in the banking business, primarily in senior management positions, including President and Chief Executive Officer, Chief Lending Officer and Chief Credit Officer of California and Texas financial institutions. He also holds the designation of Certified Ophthalmic Executive, from the American Society of Ophthalmic Administrators.
Natalie Loyacano, COMT, OSA, OCS, ROUB
Practice Administrator — The VitreoRetinal Eye Center
Natalie has been in ophthalmology for over 30 years. She began her career in 1984 working as an ophthalmic assistant and ophthalmic surgical assistant. She obtained her first JCAHPO certification in 1989. Natalie has experience as a Clinical Director and Clinical Research Coordinator. In 2009, she became the Practice Manager for a solo retina specialist, assisting him in beginning his solo career.
Robert F. Melendez, MD, MBA
Partner, Eye Associates of New Mexico — Clinical Assistant Professor, University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center
Dr. Melendez is a partner at Eye Associates of New Mexico, a private practice of more than 45 ophthalmologists and optometrists and a clinical assistant professor at the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center. He has been in practice for nearly 10 years and is passionate about educating and mentoring medical students and young ophthalmologists. He serves as the Academy's Editor-in-Chief of the Ophthalmic News and Education (ONE®) Network and chairs the Young Ophthalmologist Committee. He has a strong interest in marketing, social media, leadership, strategic planning, and clinical efficiencies.
Practice Administrator for John S Parker, MD
Bonnie has been in the healthcare field since 1980. She began her career with a degree in occupational therapy and a private hand therapy practice, but has been the practice administrator for a solo cornea practice in Birmingham, Ala. for the past 15 years.
Raj Rathod, MD, MBA
Physician — Orange County Retina
Dr. Rathod completed his undergraduate education at Stanford University and attended medical and business school at Vanderbilt University in Nashville. Later, he completed his residency at Washington University, St. Louis where he received several awards for teaching and patient care. He then served as the Chief Resident at Washington University. During his fellowship in vitreoretinal surgery and ocular tumors at the University of Illinois, Chicago, Dr. Rathod was voted "Fellow of the Year”. He currently practices at Orange County Retina in Southern California.
Andrew Wang, COE, FACHE, MHSA, MBA
Practice Administrator — Kansas City Eye Clinic
Andrew has over 20 years of experience in administration in private practice health care, humanitarian organizations, academic medical centers and local government. In his primary career focus of health care he has had successful posts in business planning and analysis as well as practice management. Since 2007 he has been the administrator at the Kansas City Eye Clinic, a multi-specialty, comprehensive eye clinic with an optical boutique. Andrew is also an elected member of his local government, the City Council of Prairie Village, Kansas.
Robert E. Wiggins, Jr. MD, MHA
Managing Partner — Asheville Eye Associates
Senior Secretary for Ophthalmic Practice — American Academy of Ophthalmology
Dr. Wiggins practices pediatric and neuro-ophthalmology and is the managing partner of Asheville Eye Associates. He performed his ophthalmology residency at Duke and his pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus fellowship at Baylor and his neuro-ophthalmology fellowship at Duke. He worked in Saudi Arabia as a pediatric ophthalmologist prior to joining Asheville Eye Associates. He obtained a Master of Healthcare Administration degree at UNC-Chapel Hill in 2003. Dr. Wiggins currently serves as the Academy's Senior Secretary for Ophthalmic Practice. He is also serves on the AAOE EHR committee, AAO Practicing Ophthalmologists Advisory Committee for Education, AAPOS board as secretary-treasurer and finance committee chairman, and finance and underwriting committees of OMIC.
