  • CPT for using a non-mydriatic camera

Question: How should I submit claims when using a non-mydriatic camera?

Answer: Report CPT code 92250 Fundus photography when detecting disease or abnormal findings in the posterior segment using a non-mydriatic camera.

When used for screening, this is considered a noncovered service and, as such, does not have to be submitted to the payer. The patient would be responsible for payment and should be made aware prior to the service and agree to fees. Otherwise the practice would absorb.
