2008 Eye Injury Snapshot Project

The 5th Annual Eye Injury Snapshot Project
May 11 to 18, 2008

The Eye Injury Snapshot is an annual study, conducted in partnership between the Academy and the American Society of Ocular Trauma, that identifies the nature of eye injuries. For the fifth annual Eye Injury Snapshot, physicians are being asked to document the ocular injuries they treat from May 11 to 18, 2008. The collected data will be used to gain insight into the nature and prevalence of eye injuries, and this “snapshot” will help draw media and public attention to injury prevention and eye safety.

This data, combined with results from a new public survey gauging consumer awareness on eye injuries and safety, will provide the key findings to officially launch the EyeSmart eye injury awareness effort in June 2008. Pairing the physician and public surveys will help increase attention to this important issue and will help further highlight the unique role ophthalmologists play in eye health.

Additional details on the snapshot, including how to submit data (basic epidemiological information within HIPAA guidelines), will be provided shortly, so check back to this page often.
