Aspirating Speculum

Katena has introduced the Markomanolakis Aspirating Speculum for the removal of excess fluids during surgery. The combination wire speculum and large-bore aspiration tube was designed by Marinos Markomanolakis, MD, of Williamsville, N.Y.

The speculum was designed with the tube opening positioned at the lateral canthus so that it can handle a large volume of fluid without risking occlusion by the conjunctiva. According to Katena, the design allows irrigating fluids to drain, keeping the ocular surface free of microbial or chemical contaminants during laser refractive surgery.

Ultra-Widefield Angiography System

The FDA has granted Optos 510(k) marketing clearance for its Optos Panoramic200A Ultra-Widefield Scanning Laser System.

The image generated by the P200A, the Optos Angiomap, provides approximately 200 degrees of internal viewing angle of the retina. This allows the ophthalmologist to view the extent of peripheral disease, see retinal landmarks, customize therapy and document and monitor post-treatment effectiveness.

Through its three lasers, which provide red, green and blue wavelengths, the Optos P200A captures a sequence of ultra-widefield retinal images as fluorescein dye flows through retinal vessels.
