The answer to this month’s mystery image:

Anastomosis

A patient previously suffering a central retinal vein occlusion underwent laser-induced chorioretinal venous anastomosis. The color photograph shows a large proximal vein with a smaller distal segment draining into the anastomosis. The close-up (far right) shows the peculiar trilaminar fluorescein flow into the anastomosis. This particular pattern indicates that there is retrograde flow of blood in the inferotemporal vein away from the disc toward the anastomosis.
