Corneal Ulcer Treatment Approved

Vistakon Pharmaceuticals has announced the introduction of Iquix (levofloxacin ophthalmic solution) ocular anti-infective medication.

The company reports that this is the only new-generation fluoroquinolone approved by the FDA for the treatment of corneal ulcers.

Iquix contains 1.5 percent levofloxacin and is formulated to penetrate corneal tissue rapidly while providing broad coverage of the most sight-threatening gram-negative and the most prevalent gram-positive pathogens. The medication targets these pathogens by inhibiting both topoisomerase IV and DNA gyrase. Iquix is preservative-free.

Ophthalmic Tools

Gulden Ophthalmics has added two new tools to its ophthalmic line.

The Spanish Language Wormington Near Vision Acuity Screening Card uses single letters and Spanish text to allow the eye care professional to measure a Spanish-speaking patient’s single letter near vision and reading acuity with no interfering language barriers. The card features a tumbling E chart in Times New Roman font and uses a metric scale and pupil size array.

The Glasses Station! Eyeglass Caddy & Cleaner is designed to hold patients’ eyeglasses during exams. Attaching to the phoropter pole, this plastic unit features a felt-lined compartment for holding two pairs of eyeglasses. A microfiber cleaning cloth is attached to the side of the unit so that patients can clean their eyeglasses. An additional compartment in the front of the unit can hold the office’s business cards or cleaning solutions.

Low Vision Prescription Lens

Eschenbach has introduced its Univision Low Vision lens for visually impaired patients who need prescription correction for near tasks and want it the day of their visit.

The round, high-plus lenses, which are 22-mm in diameter and lightweight, form a microscopic system when mounted on a spectacle lens. The adhesive application allows the lens to be mounted directly onto the patient’s spectacles and to adhere to a variety of spectacle materials, such as high-index glass and polycarbonate, as well as to lenses with tints or reflective coatings.

The Univision Kit includes an assortment of Univision lenses in powers from 8 to 40 D that are contained in a case alongside application tools.
