New Model Gulden Ophthalmics has released the St-EYE-Ro Practice Patient Model, which is designed for practicing direct and indirect ophthalmoscopy, photocoagulation and other examinations and procedures. This ergonom ically designed practice model can be used with a slit lamp, with headlight ophthalmos copy in a vertical or horizontal position, and with other examination tools and techniques. It also can be used in conjunction with Gulden’s optional Reti Eye, a practice eye composed of two halves. The upper half includes the lens, and the lower half includes replaceable retinal films that show vascularization and the optic nerve. The model is bottom-weighted for use in a vertical position; it also can be used in a horizontal position, pole-mounted or used with a slit lamp. Gulden Ophthalmics
Disposable Knives Bausch & Lomb Storz Instruments has announced the availability of a new line of guarded disposable knives for cataract surgery. They feature a unique handle design for added safety to help reduce the risk of sharps-related injuries to health care workers. Packaged in the guarded position, the blade remains protected until it is needed during surgery, and it can be repositioned immediately after use. This new line provides a variety of slit, clear corneal and trapezoidal knives, including sizes for sub-2-mm surgery. A 15-degree stab knife and a 2-mm, angled crescent knife are also available. New Surgical Instruments ASICO has added two new instruments to its product line.The Koch Double-Footplate LRI Diamond Knife (AE-8122) features a double footplate that is designed to ensure consistent wound architecture. A trifacet blade also is intended to facilitate controlled entry, and it has side-cutting edges for easy wound extension. Depths are adjustable to 500, 550 and 600 µm. The Intra-Op Toric Axis Marker II (AE-2794) is designed to work in conjunction with the company’s reference markers for precise toric IOL alignment. This marker features a thin profile and titanium body for easy handling, as well as slits up to 180 degrees for maximizing visibility when aligning to the reference marks. A dial on the inner barrel also helps to identify the marking position and allows for easy rotation to the proper setting. ASICO
Image Capture Model TrueVision Systems has released the next generation of its Image Capture Mod ule and TrueWare OS 6.0 system software to provide an updated real-time, 3-D, high-definition vision system for microsurgery. The capture module is approximately 60 percent smaller than the original, and it includes a more powerful processor, higher image resolution, upgraded sensors and is compatible with a greater number of microscopes. It replaces the eyepiece module of surgical microscopes and converts the optical image to a digital video stream. The new software offers plug-and-play support for flatpanel, high-resolution, 3-D displays. TrueVision Systems
Contrast-Enhancing Filters Eschenbach has released its Solar3 filters. These are designed for those who don’t wear glasses but who still want the benefits of contrastenhancing and glare-reducing eyewear. The wrap-around style is designed for the convenience of emmetropes and contact lens wearers. The filters are available in five lens tints—polarized gray, yellow, amber, orange and plum. All Solar3 filters block 100 percent of UVA/UVB rays and feature bend-to-fit temples for a custom fit. Eschenbach
