The double-ended Milder phaco spatula from Katena features, at one end, a chopper with an inferior edge for horizontal division of a soft- to medium-density nucleus as well as a wedge-shaped posterior tip for vertically chopping a harder nucleus. The chopper is offset 60 degrees, allowing the surgeon to use it through a paracentesis incision and chop toward the phaco probe.
On the opposite end of the instrument is a spatula with a disc-shaped tip, which can be used to stabilize the globe and manipulate nucleus fragments.
