Phaco Spatula The double-ended Milder phaco spatula from Katena features, at one end, a chopper with an inferior edge for horizontal division of a soft- to medium-density nucleus as well as a wedge-shaped posterior tip for vertically chopping a harder nucleus. The chopper is offset 60 degrees, allowing the surgeon to use it through a paracentesis incision and chop toward the phaco probe. On the opposite end of the instrument is a spatula with a disc-shaped tip, which can be used to stabilize the globe and manipulate nucleus fragments. Katena Low Vision Products Optelec has introduced three new products. The Optelec FarView is a portable magnification device that allows users to access, store, review and share information. It features a built-in auto-focus camera, zoom-in functionality and scrolling. The Optelec ClearView+ G2 is a desktop electronic video magnifier that allows the user to read and write with magnified and illuminated viewing assistance. It features a five-directional arm, 90-degree rotating screen, high-definition image quality and Reon HQV image processing technology, which Optelec says eliminates image fading and eye fatigue. The Optelec ClearNote Portable is a lightweight portable video magnifier that combines distance, document and self-viewing modes. This laptop magnification solution connects to any computer via the USB port. Optelec Toric IOL Alcon has announced FDA approval of its aspheric AcrySof IQ Toric intraocular lens. The IOL is intended to improve image quality and increase contrast sensitivity in cataract surgery patients with astigmatism. Alcon
