Single-Use Handpieces Bausch & Lomb Storz has announced the release of two additions to its line of single-use instrumentation: the 85910ST Silicone I/A Handpiece for the Stellaris system and the 85910S Silicone I/A Handpiece for the Millennium system. Both instruments are recommended for use in a 2.2- to 2.8-mm incision. They feature a flexible 45-degree silicone tip designed for effective cortical removal, capsule polishing, viscoelastic removal and IOL manipulation in the capsular bag. The company says that the smooth irrigation and aspiration ports eliminate sharp edges for reduced risk of capsule rupture and that the semitransparent silicone sleeve provides superior visualization. Bausch & Lomb Storz Ophthalmics SLT Lens Volk Optical has introduced a new selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT) lens. It is designed for high-resolution views of the anterior-chamber angle for examination and laser-spot placement. The SLT lens’ single internally reflecting surface delivers 1x magnification in order to maintain laser-spot size and power density. Its curved upper lens surface is intended to ensure the laser-beam profile remains circular for consistent laser-spot placement. Used with a coupling fluid, the contact lens is designed to provide stability for laser delivery. The SLT lens is constructed of high-grade acrylic. A smaller profile is intended to simplify manipulation of the lens, especially in a patient with a deep-set eye or narrow brow. Volk Optical Progressive Readers for Presbyopes Eschenbach has introduced its new progressive reader, the MiniFrame 2, which is specifically designed for presbyopes who want all of their near-point powers in one pair of readers. They come in five different powers (1 D, 1.5 D, 2 D, 2.5 D and 3 D) and a choice of two colors (gold and gun metal). The MiniFrame 2 is a progressive reader that increases in power by 1 D from the top of the lens to the bottom. For example, the 2-D pair provides 1 D of magnification at the top of the lens and then slowly increases to 2 D at the bottom. Because of this multifocal design, the MiniFrame 2s are intended for training future progressive prescription wearers. Eschenbach
