Allergic Conjunctivitis Therapy Allergan has introduced Lastacaft, a once-daily therapy for patients with allergic conjunctivitis. Lastacaft (alcaftadine ophthalmic solution) 0.25 percent is indicated for the prevention of ocular itching. The active ingredient, alcaftadine, is a new chemical entity with an affinity for H1—a histamine receptor in the early phase of allergic conjunctivitis. 23- and 25-Gauge Surgical Instruments Bausch + Lomb Storz has launched several new products to expand its line of single-use vitreoretinal instrumentation to include a broad range of 23- and 25-gauge instrument designs. The Passive Aspiration Handpiece is packaged with an attached soft tip cannula for passive aspiration of fluid during intraocular procedures. The soft, silicone tip of the cannula is designed to provide atraumatic aspiration capabilities. The Membrane Pick features a 130-degree angled tip and nonglare finish on the shaft of the instrument. Both of these items are available for 23- and 25-gauge procedures. In addition, the company has introduced the 23-gauge MVR Knife designed for insertion through the 23-gauge cannula and two new 25- gauge bipolar pencils, the Bipolar Pencil With Tapered Tip and 2-Pin Connection and the Bipolar Pencil With Blunt Tip and 2-Pin Connection.
